چکیده

In this work we use the method of homogenization to develop a filtration law in porous media that includes the effects of inertia at finite Reynolds numbers. The result is much different than the empirically observed quadratic Forchheimer equation. First, the correction to Darcy’s ∗The research of A.M. was partially supported by the GDR MOMAS (Modélisation Mathématique et Simulations numériques liées aux problèmes de gestion des déchets nucléaires) (PACEN/CNRS, ANDRA, BRGM, CEA, EDF, IRSN) as a part of the project ”Modèles de dispersion efficace pour des problèmes de Chimie-Transport: Changement d’échelle dans la modélisation du transport réactif en milieux poreux, en présence des nombres caractéristiques dominants. ” . It was initiated during the stay of A.M. as Visiting Researcher at the ICES, University of Austin in May 2007, supported through the J. T. Oden Faculty Fellowship.

Experimental Investigation of the Permeability and Inertial Effect on Fluid Flow through Homogeneous Porous Media

The value of the permeability in fluid flow through porous media is important for process investigation. In low Reynolds number, the classic Darcy’s law is suitable for simulation of fluid flow. In this paper, an experimental study for evaluation of preformed fiber permeability has been done. Also, the deviations from the classical Darcy law by experimental and numerical simulation of the N...

Numerical Modeling and Simulation of Turbulent Flow of Newtonian Fluids through Porous Media Using Rans and Les Approach

The numerical analysis of the mechanisms governing the flow in the porous region is of a priority interest for modeling porous media flows. The present study is a prerequisite for elaborating the efficient turbulence modeling techniques in porous media flows. The main objective of present study is to provide a detailed pore scale description of fluid flow and to analyze the formation of the coh...

A Nonlinear Effective Slip Interface Law for Transport Phenomena between a Fracture Flow and a Porous Medium

We present modeling of an incompressible viscous flow through a fracture adjacent to a porous medium. A fast stationary flow, predominantly tangential to the porous medium is considered. Slow flow in such setting can be described by the Beavers-Joseph-Saffman slip. For fast flows, a nonlinear filtration law in the porous medium and a nonlinear interface law are expected. In this paper we rigoro...

Particle-based simulation and visualization of fluid flows through porous media

We propose a method of fluid simulation where boundary conditions are designed in such a way that fluid flow through porous media, pipes, and chokes can be realistically simulated. Such flows are known to be low Reynolds number incompressible flows and occur in many real life situations. To obtain a high quality fluid surface, we include a scalar value in isofunction. The scalar value indicates...

Analytical approach to the Darcy-Lapwood-Brinkman equation

Three exact solutions are obtained for flow through porous media, as governed by the Darcy–Lapwood–Brinkman model, for a given vorticity distribution. The resulting flow fields are identified as reversing flows; stagnation point flows; and flows over a porous flat plate with blowing or suction. Dependence of the flow Reynolds number on the permeability of the flow through the porous medium is i...
